Level Designer

About

Hello! NICE TO MEET YOU.

I'm Catherine, an Aussie-Kiwi game designer currently based in Wellington, New Zealand. I have 6 years experience in game development, with 4 of those in design.

In my Game Designer role at Wētā Workshop I currently focus on systems design, with some crossover into quest and level design. I’ve been able to leverage my variety of experience to help out in many different ways, especially with bridging the gap between narrative and systems implementation.

I’ve had experience across a range of studio sizes, from small indie teams to larger triple-I/AA teams, and having this in my early career has provided me with the opportunity to learn from incredible senior talent across multiple disciplines while providing mentorship and guidance to the junior designers on my team. This variety combined with my experience in a range of different studio roles, including marketing, QA and production, make me an intuitive and well-rounded communicator.

Despite having ADHD (or perhaps because of it), I’m known for being incredibly organised, and these organisational skills filter through my team, enabling them to put trust in my work.

I have a Bachelor of Games and Interactive Entertainment from Queensland University of Technology, and topped this off with the excellent Level Design for Games course from CGMA. I’m excited to bring these specialised skills to a role in level, quest or content design.

Crafting the player experience is one of my greatest passions; it gets me up in the morning, and keeps me up at night! I leverage this best in a creative and team-oriented space where my ability to make myself useful in any capacity I can is valued. I’m ambitious and always motivated to add to my skillset wherever possible - wherever there is a leadership opportunity, I naturally fill the gap.

In my spare time, I love to work in Bethesda’s Skyrim Creation Kit on my own quests and environments. Away from the desk, my hobbies include powerlifting, hiking, diving and being a foster carer for my local cat shelter.

To find out more about my experience, you can find a breakdown of design projects I've worked on in the Game Design gallery, and read more about those experiences and many others on my design blog. I’ve also included a space for other projects, in which you can see other games I have supported professionally in fields other than design. If you think I might be a good fit for your team, get in touch and we can make some cool stuff happen!
